CounterUASWorld Summary

France and Iraq have agreed to deepen defense cooperation, with a strong focus on air defense and C-UAS capabilities. During Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaydi’s official visit to Paris, both countries signed a Letter of Intent covering autonomous air defense systems from French company Harmattan AI and established a roadmap for future Iraqi defense acquisitions from French industry. The agreement includes plans for further discussions on C-UAS systems, air defense, surveillance technologies, and artillery. Harmattan AI’s portfolio includes the Gobi and Gobi Tempest interceptor systems, designed to engage Group 1-3 drones at high speed. The deal reflects Iraq’s growing interest in strengthening its layered air defense architecture and countering the evolving drone threat, while expanding long-term security and industrial cooperation with France.
