CounterUASWorld Summary

Japan and Malaysia have signed an agreement worth ¥1.65 billion under Japan’s Official Security Assistance (OSA) program to provide a Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) capability to the Royal Malaysian Navy. The project is intended to strengthen Malaysia’s maritime surveillance and monitoring capabilities in strategically important waterways, including the Strait of Malacca and the southern South China Sea. Notably, this is the first OSA project focused on delivering a counter-drone system. The initiative supports broader Japan-Malaysia security cooperation and aims to enhance the protection of critical sea lanes while contributing to regional stability and the goals of the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision.
