CounterUASWorld Summary

Saab UK and Kraken Technology Group have developed an experimental autonomous “drone seeker” vessel designed to enhance maritime counter-UAS operations. The prototype combines Saab’s Giraffe 1X 3D radar with Kraken’s autonomous K3 Scout unmanned surface vessel, enabling the detection and tracking of small aerial threats in maritime environments. Developed in less than seven months, the system is intended to provide early warning against drone incursions and support the protection of shipping, ports, offshore energy infrastructure, and other critical assets. The project aligns with the concept of a “hybrid navy,” where autonomous and crewed platforms operate together, and has already undergone sea trials to evaluate radar performance and operational effectiveness at sea.
